How to Choose the Best Grounding Sheets for YOU

Jump To:
The Research: Do They Work? Why Choose Fitted Earthing Sheets? How Long to See Effects? How to Use Grounding Sheets Reviews

I am a total fanboy for grounding sheets. I want to get that out of the way first.

I tried it for a few weeks and I am fully converted.

There’s some Pavlovian bliss to it at this point. I know I’m going to sleep so comfortably and deeply that I’ll drool all over the pillow…

So when I lay down at night I curl up in cozy anticipation…and it’s all because of the grounding sheets.

There are lots of options though, and the differences are hardly limited to thread count. Grounding products can come in a wide variety of forms.

We’ve tried them all, and we’ll give you the skinny on which are the best for different situations and applications.

Let’s get wrapped up in the six best grounding sheets.

Best Grounding Sheets for One Person

The Earthing Elite Sleep Mat Kit by Earthing is our pick for the best earthing sheet for just one person, or for a twin bed.

You can either install this grounding sheet lengthwise on the bed to give one person the maximum contact with grounding, or you can install it across the width of the bed to give two people some contact with the grounding sheet.

So it’s usable for two people but the contact area isn’t as broad or certain as the other options farther down the list.

This sheet is also easy to install, remove, and clean. These are all key advantages for a single person using a grounding sheet.

The sheet is small which means you can even pack it up and take it with you the next time you travel. Here are the key takeaways about this sheet:

  • Includes a safety adapter for US electrical sockets
  • Can be oriented horizontally (for a half sheet option) or vertically on the bed
  • Carbon material is easy to clean
  • Can be used under fitted sheets or on top
  • Easy to transport

Best Grounding Sheets for Two People

Are you looking to make sure two people stay connected to the natural currents of the Earth? The GroundLuxe Organic Fitted Grounding Sheet is the best choice for couples.

GroundLuxe as a company has been around for a while, with a focus on comfort and value.

This top grounding sheet takes a more conventional approach to its materials. Rather than using carbon, it uses organic cotton with silver threads woven in a pattern to produce silver gridding that guarantees consistent contact and conductivity.

Silver thread has highly conductive properties that give it optimal effectiveness for grounding.

This earthing sheet also comes in Queen and King sizes. This makes it an ideal choice for a couple looking to get a full night’s earthing, but who don’t want to fuss around with specialty flat sheets.

This grounding sheet fits your mattress just like your standard fitted sheet. Here are the big advantages of these grounding bed sheets:

  • Made from organic cotton and silver
  • Queen and King sizes
  • 13-foot grounding cord for flexible placement
  • 400 thread count sheets feel luxurious
  • Rave reviews from satisfied customers

Why Choose Fitted Earthing Sheets?

There are many types of earthing sheets to choose from on the market today. You can get earthing pillow cases, half sheets, flat sheets and more. Our top recommendation for larger beds is to use a fitted earthing sheet and here are the reasons why:

  • Fitted sheets stay put – In our testing, other sheet types, especially half-sheets, tend to end up as a wad at the bottom of the bed. They don’t stay in place and in contact with you.
  • They are always in contact with you during the night – Even larger flat sheets can get thrown off you or wadded up over night, the fitted sheet is always in contact.
  • They aren’t visible when the bed is made – This is just aesthetic, but when the bed is made you can’t see the fitted sheet. Often it won’t exactly match the color of your other sheets so this is preferable.

Best Budget Grounding Sheets

The BioEnergy fitted sheet is the best choice for people who want to get grounded on a budget and are willing to make a couple minor compromises.

The sheet is similar to some higher budget options on this list. BioEnergy has a very broad product catalog, with a grounding product for nearly any use including home office, children and even pets.

BioEnergy Warning Insert

The compromises are just that the sheet is thinner than other options so it may not be quite as durable, and it has cotton sides with no conductive material.

That latter one isn’t a big deal because you don’t sleep on the sides of the sheet.

They are somewhat less expensive though and they have a good warranty from an established manufacturer.

    • Made from cotton and silver
    • Broad array of other grounding products
    • Affordable

Best If You Need a Dark Color

Now let’s change things up. This dark gray grounding sheet from GroundLuxe takes a new approach to style.

Most grounding sheets go for a natural, cotton-colored look, but this brand has a different aesthetic. If you want a product that doesn’t look like a grounding sheet, this is the one for you. The darker color also makes the silver fiber blend in so it’s harder to see. GroundLuxe Gray Grounding Sheet

We discuss this more in our buyer’s guide, but style is important when it comes to earthing sheets. If you love the way your sheets look, you’re going to use them more often. Owning and using grounding sheets shouldn’t feel like a burden. This also applies to style.

You get all the great benefits of the GroundLuxe brand mentioned above, just in a less traditional and more modern style.

These grounding sheets aren’t all about their looks. They also feature several size options, cotton and silver construction, and an extra-long 15-foot grounding cable.

      • Refreshingly modern color option
      • Queen & King sizes
      • Organic cotton

Want to Plug Directly into the Ground?

The standard outlet plug is the most convenient for most people. However, if you don’t trust that your outlet is properly grounded or just prefer not to use your home’s electrical system, you CAN also plug directly into the earth outside for the same effect.

Earthing makes a grounding stake with an adaptor that you can use with any grounding product. It has a 40-foot cord that should reach the ground outside from almost any positioning in the bedroom.

Best If You Insist on a Flat Sheet

The Tbrand Earthing Bed Sheet is the best choice if you’re looking for a flat sheet or top sheet to go over fitted bedding sheets.

I think there are specific benefits to using a fitted grounding sheet, as detailed above.

However, there are reasons for just wanting a flat sheet, or for wanting one in addition to the fitted sheet.

You can curl up with this sheet atop a fitted sheet to get maximum skin contact for optimal grounding.

You can even use this flat sheet in different situations. If you want to curl up on the couch and watch your favorite show, a flat sheet is a much better alternative than a fitted sheet. These also make a great choice for traveling because they fold up neatly.

  • Comes with two pillowcases
  • Natural cotton fibers
  • Silver for grounding
  • Comes in beige, off white, and pure white

Best For Lounging and Watching TV

Want a grounding sheet that is perfect for your next Netflix binge? The Earthing Throw Kit by Earthing is a throw blanket that doubles as your next go-to choice for grounding. It’s like a snuggy, only better for your health and way less stupid looking.

Most options for an earthing sheet are based on being in bed, but what if you want to stay grounded while relaxing in other parts of your home?

This grounding blanket lets you have all of the benefits of grounding while being able to switch up what room you are in. This is the most portable option out of all of the grounding sheets on our list. It also looks like an unassuming throw which only adds to its style.

Here are some key takeaways about this blanket:

  • 44 x 68 inch size
  • Includes an outlet safety adapter
  • The best choice for binge-watching streaming shows

How To Buy The Right Grounding Sheets for YOU

Jump To:
Health Benefits What to Look ForHow to Use How Do They Work? How to Test Them What to Know How to Care for Them Will the Effects Be Immediate?

It can be hard to pick the right grounding sheets for you. Here’s all of the insider information you need to find grounding that sheets that actually work.

There are a few things you should look for in any good grounding sheet.

An earthing sheet should be made of a comfortable and breathable fabric. A grounding sheet made out of cotton is going to be ideal. If a grounding sheet isn’t comfortable, you’re not going to be able to use it as regularly as you need to.

The next thing to consider is the grounding itself. The sheet should come with a cord that is long enough to reach the outlet you want to plug it into. Grounding sheets are typically grounded using a thin silver wire woven throughout the fabric, usually in a grid pattern. This wire should not make using the sheet uncomfortable though.

You should also consider your style. You want to find an earthing sheet that you’re happy to use on every occasion.

There are many health benefits associated with the practice of grounding and by extension, earthing sheets.

There is some research that connects grounding with some health improvements. These are most associated with lowering inflammation.

However, grounding has been reported to improve anxiety, stress levels, and even pain. There are individuals who swear by grounding as a way to improve their skin and even blood-related health issues.

Studies have shown that grounding helps improve your blood’s zeta potential and the energy transfer between red blood cells. Studies have shown that this process begins after being grounded for 80 minutes, which is easiest to achieve by using earthing sheets.

Further studies from the Journal of Environmental and Public Health suggest that the Earth’s negative charge can lead to a stable internal bioelectrical environment.

The study also indicated that grounding could help reset the body’s biological clocks regulating diurnal body rhythms, including cortisol secretion. Simply put, grounding and sleeping go hand-in-hand.

Another study indicated that 11 out of 12 people studied fell asleep faster when grounded. Over 75% of participants woke up more refreshed and had more energy, in addition to having less anxiety, depression, irritability, and emotional stress.

An extensive summary of the research on earthing found evidence that earthing may have a variety of positive effects:

  • Reduces time to fall asleep
  • Increases quality of sleep
  • Reduces chronic pain
  • Decreases morning fatigue
  • Increases energy level during the day
  • Reduces stress levels
  • Reduces inflammatory response
  • Increased immune response
  • Improves glucose regulation
  • Reduces primary indicators of osteoporosis

Things To Look For In Quality Grounding Sheets

You want to find grounding sheets that not only keep you connected with the Earth’s natural currents, but you also want to find earthing sheets that are made to a high standard.

You should look for the best material first. Organic cotton, silver wire, and solid construction make up the base of any quality grounding sheet. These should be on the top of your “must-haves” list when shopping for new grounding sheets.

Another thing people often overlook is the length of the cord. It should be able to easily reach your plug with some slack left over. A grounding sheet is no good if you can’t plug it in. You also don’t want that plug falling out at night or creating a tripping hazard by being too short.

How to Use Grounding or Earthing Sheets

This is really easy.

All you need to do is make sure your bare skin is touching the grounding sheet and that the grounding sheet is connected to the Earth.

This connection can be made by plugging your sheet into the ground in an electrical socket or by connecting the grounding wire to a spike that is installed directly in the ground outside (this set up isn’t usually included with grounding products).

Once you’re all set up, you just need to make sure that your skin is in contact with the blanket. You can do this overnight as you sleep or just for a few hours a day as you read a book.

How Do Grounding Sheets Work?

Here’s the big controversy with grounding sheets and earthing in general. Do they really work?

As you move throughout the day, your body builds up a slight positive charge. The earth itself has a slight negative charge that creates a balance. Coming into direct contact with the earth transfers electrons to your body, balancing out the charge in your body.

Electrons neutralize free radicals. A free radical can be defined as any molecular species capable of independent existence that contains an unpaired electron in an atomic orbital. Many radicals are unstable and highly reactive. They can either donate an electron to or accept an electron from other molecules.

Oxidative stress arises as a result of an imbalance between free radical production and antioxidant defenses and is associated with damage to a wide range of molecular species including lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. An excess of oxidative stress can lead to the oxidation of lipids and proteins, which is associated with changes in their structure and functions.

Oxidative stress can create chronic inflammation, illness and immune diseases have all increased dramatically in recent decades as humans have become more detached from direct contact with the earth.

Well, there is scientific research that suggests that grounding is beneficial to your health. Even more, research connects grounding with health improvements for inflammation, cortisol secretion, and wound healing.

So, it turns out that grounding does have real-world health benefits. However, it’s important to note that no one should be claiming that grounding can cure everything. The benefits are thought to come from a process of restoring electrical balance to the body.

The concept is similar to EMF avoidance. Grounding products don’t help you avoid EMFs though, they help you release the positive ions that build up in your system and create oxidative stress. Oxidation is caused by free radicals in the body, and grounding is thought to reduce this effect.

You can consider grounding a great way to boost your overall health! (Even the science seems to agree!)

How Do I Test Whether My Grounding Sheets Work?

You use a multimeter, here’s how you do it.

What You Need To Know About Using Grounding Sheets

There’s one big warning that comes with grounding bed linen and even a grounding mat or earthing mat.

If your model of grounding sheet plugs into the socket in your wall, you should have an electrician check that your ground is secure. You can also do this yourself with an outlet tester, which is far cheaper.

You should also never plug your grounding sheet into any other socket besides the ground. Because the plug and socket are different shapes, this would be incredibly difficult to screw up, but it’s worth saying.

How to Care for Grounding Sheets

You generally want to treat them gently. Don’t use bleach or harsh detergents on them, even to remove stains. You should also avoid fabric softeners, the use of night creams, lotions, and any other type of product that could create a build-up of residue, as this will cause problems over time and reduce the effectiveness of the sheets by blocking the flow of energy.

Follow the instructions on the product you purchase, but it doesn’t hurt to use a gentle wash cycle on your washing machine and a lower heat setting on your dryer. Using white vinegar as a detergent is a gentle and eco-friendly option.

Will the Effects of Grounding Be Immediate?

According to, you may feel different when you first start sleeping with grounding sheets. Some users experience signs, pains, and aches typically associated with the flu. However, in most cases this discomfort is temporary. It’s believed that these symptoms are associated with your body resetting its electrical system.

Over time, those who use grounding sheets find that they are getting a better night’s sleep, and are waking up more energized. If you experience pain when you first start sleeping on grounding sheets, take the sheets off and sleep without them for a few days. When you put them on again, begin with a shorter exposure. Gradually increase your exposure to the sheets until you feel more comfortable sleeping on them.

Final Thoughts on the Best Grounding Sheets

The GroundLuxe Organic Cotton Fitted Grounding Sheet is our overall pick for the best earthing sheet. It offers you 100% skin-to-ground surface contact, it’s made out of durable and easy-to-clean materials, and it works very well (it’s the one I use nightly).

The Earthing Elite Sleep Mat and the BioEnergy sheet are a couple solid runner-up choices. They each excel in their specific ways which makes them great picks for people looking for something a little more specialized. Remember that the best earthing sheets are the ones that you want to use the most.

6 of the Best Grounding Shoes You Can Buy

Being one with nature appears to have health benefits, such as better immune function, less risk of certain diseases, and less anxiety.

However, with the hectic lives most people live, walking barefoot and connecting with nature isn’t always possible and definitely isn’t done nearly as frequently as it should be.

Grounding shoes, also known as earthing shoes, can make this possible, and certain ones are a cut above the rest.

Top Choices for Grounding Shoes

Here are some of the best grounding shoes we found:

1. Best for Winter Wear:

Bastien Industries Women’s Moose Hide Leather Moccasins

  • Genuine leather soles
  • Authentic moose hide composition
  • Soft

  • Too hot for summer use
  • May not be true to fit

A: Yes. While they aren’t designed with grounding in mind, your feet perspire and that perspiration soaks into the leather, creating conductivity to the ground. This of course works better in warm weather than cold weather.

2. Best for Active Individuals:

Harmony 783 Gray Wool Jogger

  • Designed for running
  • Uses GroundWorksTM technology
  • Silver-stitched lasting border layer

  • Adjustable buckle

  • Not for winter wear
  • Not for people with wide feet
  • Aren’t comfortable enough for extended wear

4. Best Value:

Minnetonka Women’s Thunderbird Softsole Moccasin

  • Leather sole
  • Genuine cow suede leather
  • Classic moccasin design
  • Available in half sizes
  • Unique glass bead detail

  • Sizing may not be accurate
  • Leather is stiff

5. Best Comfort:

Earth Runners Lifestyle Sandals

  • Orthopedic design
  • Stainless steel lined laces
  • Copper ground plug
  • Vibram® Gumlite Outsole
  • Organic dye

  • May slide on your feet
  • Sizing not true to fit

6. Best for Style:

Harmony 783 Giraffe Print Suede Walker

How to Choose Grounding Shoes

Before purchasing grounding shoes, you should understand what makes a grounding shoe a grounding shoe. You should also know the benefits.

By thoroughly understanding grounding shoes, you can decide if this type of shoe is right for you and have the knowledge to find one most suited for your needs.

How Do Grounding Shoes Work?

Grounding shoes are a unique shoe that helps you get as close to the Earth as possible without going barefoot. The Earth’s surface consists of electrons — subatomic, negatively charged particles. Your body, on the other hand, has free radicals throughout it. These molecules are highly reactive and unstable as a result of a missing electron.

As you’re exposed to environmental toxins, such as cigarette smoke, ultraviolet light, X-rays, chemicals, and air pollutants. Cellular damage occurs and causes instability on an atomic level within your cells, resulting in free radicals. As free radicals accumulate in your system, they harm you overall and increase your risk of health issues.

With grounding, your feet come in contact with the Earth’s electric field. The electrons on the Earth’s surface may travel through the shoe because they are conductive like copper. The free radicals in your system may gain the electron they’re missing through this process. The decrease in free radicals in your system leads to less risk of illness and disease, in addition to better overall health.

What Are the Health Benefits of Grounding Shoes?

Your body has fewer free radicals because of grounding. Therefore, your risk of certain types of cancer may be reduced. The free radicals damage your cells, which in return harms your DNA. Some of your cells can then mutate and become cancerous cells. When you’re grounded, the free radicals find their missing electrons. Then, they’re no longer damaging to your DNA.

The free radicals also take a toll on your heart by continuously damaging the cells, causing an increased risk of heart disease. Fewer free radicals mean less damage to your heart and a decreased risk of heart disease.

Additionally, earthing shoes may have an impact on skin aging. The sun’s UV rays cause free radical damage, which harms your skin’s cells. The elastin in your skin then gradually breaks down. Your skin becomes less able to stretch and may sag.

You’ll notice this through the development of wrinkles. With grounding, the damage from the sun is lessened by the antioxidant effects of earthing shoes. Therefore, you may have fewer wrinkles, and your skin may better maintain its elasticity.

Grounding has an effect on inflammation within the body. The free radicals cause an increase in both acute and chronic inflammation. This inflammation is an underlying cause of a variety of chronic health conditions.

Other possible benefits of grounding shoes include the following:

How Do You Choose the Right Grounding Shoe?

The higher-priced shoes aren’t necessarily the most effective. Likewise, inexpensive shoes aren’t necessarily the least effective.

You should take into consideration when you’ll wear them. Do you need a pair for running, playing sports, or walking? Are you an active person? A grounded tennis shoe may be the shoe most suited for you.

On the other hand, if you plan on wear your shoes to work every day, you’ll want a style that works with your workplace’s dress code. Maybe you need a shoe to wear when you go grocery shopping and running other errands. In this case, you’ll want to focus more on the style of shoe and its comfort level.

Another consideration is the sizing. You may find the shoes uncomfortable if you’re in a half size and need to go up a size. However, certain options give you the ability to choose half sizes that’ll fit your foot more comfortably.

While style shouldn’t the main deciding factor, you want a pair of shoes that you like. You’ll be more likely to wear them regularly if you feel comfortable with their appearance.

Additionally, you should consider the type of support the shoe has. If you have orthopedic issues or foot problems, you need a shoe that’s designed to fit the shape of your foot. You need support for the soles of your feet. Flat sandals wouldn’t be a good option, for instance, if you have plantar fasciitis. You’d want to choose a running shoe or support pair of sandals.

When you’re shopping for this type of shoe, keep in mind when you’ll wear them. To get the most benefit out of them, you’ll want to use them when you’re outside the most — winter or summer.

Finally, pricing needs to be considered. Determine what type of budget you have and how much you’re willing to spend. You can buy lower-priced options as well as ones that cost over $100 and are more similar to a normal pair of shoes.

It’s also worth noting that shoes aren’t the only way to ground yourself. We have full reviews on grounding mats and grounding sheets that will also serve the same purpose in other ways.

The Best Grounding Shoe Winners

After a careful comparison of products, the Harmony 783 Gray Wool Jogger reigns supreme.

These shoes are suitable for active wearers but are comfortable enough for everyday use. They use a specialized technology known as GroundWorksTM technology, which allows electrons to flow freely through the use of silver.

The trampoline heel gives cushioning and support. Moreover, these shoes fulfill all the requirements you would look for in a grounding shoe.

Due to their comfort, support, and optimal level of conductivity, Earth Runners Lifestyle Sandals and Minnetonka Women’s Thunderbird Softsole Moccasin are close second choices.

My first couple of purchases of earthing products on Amazon were what I’d describe as “trinkets.”

They were cheap gimmicks that didn’t do the real job.

There is legitimate science behind grounding; it can provide health benefits…but only if your grounding device works.

The problem is that unless you are pretty familiar with how to use a multimeter properly, you’ll never know if your device works.

That’s where we come in. At 40Winks we’ve tested and used many grounding/earthing products and we can tell the solid products from the trinkets.

Below are our recommendations for the best grounding mats for different use cases.

Grounding Mat Product Reviews

We will be quickly covering all of the top grounding mat options below. We did extensive research on these to find what we think are the best options available in each category.

As you’ll see, there are many ways you can use an earthing mat in your home. Now let’s get started…

Earthing Universal Mat: Best Overall

  • Flexibility – Can be installed on desks, as a floor mat, and other locations as needed
  • Durability – Sturdy grounding port and quality materials
  • International use – Comes with an adaptor for countries with a two-prong plug
  • Top brand – Backed by one of the oldest names in grounding gear

  • Not the right material for bedding, so you’d still need grounding sheets
  • Could be too long for some smaller desks

Do you want to reduce pain or manage inflammation at work? Then using this portable mat at the (home?) office would be a great idea. You can easily set it up on the floor beneath your desk. If you do, most people would never notice it.

Once you have it set up, you simply place your bare feet on the mat. From there, the grounding effects of the mat will balance out the positive charge in your body.

The Earthing brand has been around for a long time and sells high-quality products. They are dedicated to improving your well-being and their products offer many benefits to the human body. For example, earthing mats have been shown to lower your blood viscosity, manage high cortisol levels, provide better sleep, and reduce pain.

Most people prefer to use their grounding mat on the floor, but you might be a person who prefers to ground at night. If you are, you will be happy to know that this product works in bed too. A purpose-built mat is more comfortable for sleeping though, and we’ll cover that next.

Earthing Elite Sleep Mat Kit: Best for Sleeping

  • Fits nearly any bed
  • Individual – If your partner doesn’t like it, they don’t have to sleep on it
  • Durability – Made of high-quality materials and will likely last longer than a grounding sheet
  • Top brand – Backed by one of the oldest names in grounding gear

  • Comfort – Not as comfortable as a grounding sheet
  • Appearance – Not as attractive as a grounding sheet either

We gave this earthing item a 4.5 star rating after reviewing it, so you might want to check it out. This earthing sheet does exactly what it sets out to do–which is to help you stay grounded while you sleep. This is more convenient for many people who do not have time to ground themselves during the day.

We also liked the idea of the sleep kit. It comes with a handy user guide, as well as an outlet checker and United States safety adaptor. The company claims that two decades’ worth of research went into all the materials that make up the mat.

It is also worth talking about the quality of the materials used in this earthing product. The technology used is current and the fabric is made of comfy cotton. The silver wiring running through the earthing sheet is also top-notch, we are sure you will love the pain management benefits from it.

You are always exposed to energy as you go about your day. Having too many negative electrons stored in your body can be harmful, which creates a need to ground. Grounding at night is going to be a lot more convenient than during the day, which is why a sleeping mat can come in handy.

If you want an alternative to a half-sheet earthing product, then you should check out this sleep mat kit. It can be used conveniently while you rest at home, but is more sturdy and more durable than a sheet.

The Earthing Elite brand is very trustworthy as well. Their products are always high quality and great for wellness–be sure to check them out if you are experiencing a lot of inflammation. Check out our review of earthing sheets if you still prefer the comfort of a sheet.

Clint Ober Earthing Mat: Best for the Home Office

  • Uses high quality materials
  • Perfectly sized for home office use
  • Packaged with useful accessories

  • Too small for some uses such as a meditation or yoga mat
  • The high quality and original Clint Ober name comes with a price premium

Spend a lot of time in your home office? I know I do. Since the start of the pandemic, that’s common for a lot of folks.

When Covid hit, the very first thing I did was buff out my home office–better lighting, better screens, more ergonomic devices and of course, better grounding.

This Clint Ober mat is my top choice for the home office because of its high quality and the size the mat. The Earthing mat above is longer, more of a runner, which is great for many purposes.

However, the way my desk is situated means the feet of my desk would be on the mat. I don’t like that because it makes a permanent dent in the mat. This Clint Ober mat is size such that I can use it under my hands on top of the desk or under my feet without hitting the desk feet.

While this isn’t the cheapest mat you can buy, you do get a lot of value in this package. You get TWO grounding mats so you could put one under each foot or use one on the desk and one under the desk.

You also get some useful accessories if you plan to test your grounding mat from time to time to ensure conductivity (which you should). You get an outlet tester, which is key, plus a grounding port splitter. It’s very difficult to test whether a mat is working using a multimeter if you don’t have a splitter.

All in all, this is a high-value package for telecommuters especially.

Alfredx Grounding Therapy Mat: Budget Option

  • Very affordable grounding option
  • Small size allows for versatility: mouse pad, in bed, at the office, etc.

  • Not the same quality of materials as the Earthing brand items
  • Lacks accessories like the international adaptor and outlet tester

We understand that it can be hard to find a quality earthing mat that does not drain your bank account. After checking out various grounding mats, we found this suitable, cost-effective option.

This mat works well, but isn’t quite on par with the quality of the Earthing brand products. Still, this grounding mat will help you improve your well-being greatly. We recommend that you use it alongside grounding naturally outdoors for the most effects.

This grounding mat is still a decent size, despite its lower cost. This also allows you to use the earthing mat as a mouse pad while you work or play games, making it a pretty convenient option. You can roll up the mat and take it with you wherever you want to go.

It looks like a normal keyboard mat for your desk at work. If you want something discrete to use, this option stays hidden in plain site while healing your body.

Using an earthing mat at work is fairly important, especially if you can not step away from your computer to get grounded. Electronics emit a constant charge that is not healthy for the human body.

How to Choose an Earthing Mat

The following buyer’s guide will answer anything that you want to know about earthing products. There are many health benefits to using them, so if you have high stress levels or want to heal faster, they are great to have at home. You just need to make direct skin contact with them while they are on.

This is what you need to know about earthing products.

Is an Earthing Mat or Sheet Better?

Honestly, that is going to depend on you. Both have their own pros and cons, so it is going to come down to what you prefer to sleep on. Some people love their earthing mat, while others find them uncomfortable at night.

An earthing mat is usually going to cost less than a sheet. This is because earthing sheets tend to have a lot of silver wiring running through them and need to be made from quality, soft fabrics so you can sleep comfortably with them.

However, a sheet is not nearly as durable as an earthing mat. A mat is going to last you a very, very long time. It could be well over a year or two before you start thinking about replacing it. Sheets tend to wear out quicker and need more care when being cleaned- otherwise they could become damaged.

So, when it comes down to it, you will want to find a product that suits you. You might even want to start grounding outside naturally before you try a product. This process is simple, as you need to do is have you feet make contact with the earth- without any shoes on.

Does Grounding Actually Work?

It does, there have been studies and research done on the topic over the years. Your ancestors practiced grounding everyday without realizing it- we grew and evolved with the expectation that the earth would balance out our charge daily.

However, in the modern world, people rarely have the chance to get outside without shoes on. Grounding mats and other products are the best way to make up that natural grounding time. They adjust your charge to where it naturally should be.

Overall, there are numerous health improvements that you can receive by practicing grounding. Reduced inflammation and pain are among them, plus, you will sleep much better at night according to user reviews.

Everyone experiences the grounding process differently. Some people feel amazing and more energized after adjusting their electrical current- others barely notice a difference. The most important thing to realize is that grounding takes a while to impact the human body.

You will want to test it for a few weeks before you make a decision on whether or not grounding mats work for you. Finding more research will help you determine for yourself weather you believe in the idea of grounding.

Do I Need a Product to Ground?

Grounding mats are not the only way to practice this at home, in fact, you do not need anything except for the earth to do it naturally.

According to research, what you will want to do is simply have your skin make direct contact with the earth. When you create these links, you are transferring your electrons with the natural ones that coat the ground’s surface.

This process adjusts your body charge and helps you become healthier. So, if you want to lower stress levels, improve your sleep, manage illness, inflammation, or all of the above- you can practice earthing in your back yard.

You can even do earthing at night with a DIY project, however, you will always want to be sure you have the proper tools and set up before you sleep using it for the first time. You can do this with a simple outlet checker.

So no, you technically do not need to have an earthing product to do this. However, not everyone can walk outside without shoes on their feet in today’s world.

What Features Do You Need?

The idea of buying a mat or sheet on the current market can be overwhelming. These earth items have a lot going with them- so how can you be sure you are getting one that you need?

Overall, a simple product is best. Before you run it for the first time, be sure to use an outlet checker where you plan to plug it in, that way there are no surprises.

As for features, you really just want an earth product that works. It will need to offer a stable charge and fit where you need it, whether that be in your bed or under your desk at the office.

From there, you want to be sure that it comes with a quality power cord. You could be looking at the highest quality of mats in the world, but if the cord is too short to reach where you need it to, it can become really inconvenient to use it to earth.

Some mats come with timers, although you do not really need one. Earth mats are safe to use all night long and actually provide you with the most effects when you stay on it longer. The most convenient time to do this is while you sleep.

Is Earthing Safe?

There are many ways to earth safely at home. Using a mat is always a good option, as well as walking bare foot outside. However, you need to watch where you are going, so that you do not step on anything that causes harm to your body.

If you decide to use an earth item to supplement your time outside, make sure that you read a report if it comes with one. This usually states how much power the mat uses and should come with safety information.

You will also want to ensure you have your mat plugged into the right type of outlet. That would be a three-pronged outlet- or one where you can see three small holes on.

Before you make any final purchases, always read the review on the site, or use your favorite search engine. If you see an overwhelming number of negative review, then you might want to consider a different item.

Before you use any new earth mat, make sure you test it first. Check the wiring and make sure you can see no exposed metal. Once you plug it in and turn it on, watch the mat for any irregularities for awhile. You will probably want to use it for small bursts of time before you sleep on it, as to see how your body reacts to earthing and ensure the mat is working as intended before you fall asleep with it.

After using it, you will want to leave a review on your mat. A review, whether positive or negative, will let others know how you feel about the experience the product offered you. Try to avoid leaving medical advice in your report and focus on what happened.

How Do I Buy Earthing Goods?

If you are having trouble finding a place to purchase from, simply find the name of the brand and look them up in a search engine. This should lead you to their official website and their table of contents.

From there, check out the rating on the product and try to determine if it is something you would like from the reviews. Some websites link back to research on the topic.

Most online stores in the United States require your email address and payment information- and that is all you need to give the brand to place your order.

If you want to change address customer reviews should provide you with an answer on how to do just that. Plus, grounding mat reviews give you everything you would want to know about the efficiency of an item. If you have a problem, filtering reviews can help.

Once you receive the package at your delivery address, do not be afraid to write a report on it in an online rating. We all love to see reviews from an “internet friend of mine”, so leave your experiences there for people to read.

If you are interested, most websites also offer a newsletter that you can join. They will send you information on their brand and research relating to the item through email when you sign up.

Those were our top picks for earthing products! What did you think? Be sure to follow us for more content on earth goods. We have plenty of reviews for you to check out.

Our top pick was the Earthing Universal Mat for its quality and versatility. It is difficult to find affordable bedsheets in such a large size- especially as an earth item. The quality of the materials and user review also left a positive impression on the rating we gave it.

However, you really can not go wrong with any material on this list. They all offer earth improvements backed by research, such as improving your thyroid hormone levels. If you have any questions, feel free to send them our way!

Can Stress Cause Insomnia?

I was just 18 years old when I started having trouble falling asleep at night. It started soon after my parents got divorced. The pressure of keeping my family together and the added tension of applying to colleges would just not let me sleep peacefully at night.

It should come as no surprise that stress can affect your mental as well as physical health and well-being. It affects not only your feelings but also your body and the way it behaves. One of the greatest causes of insomnia is stress that can be caused by several factors like relationship problems, financial issues, work conflicts and traumatic experiences.

In this blog, we will study the relationship between stress and insomnia and see how both conditions affect our minds and bodies.

The Relationship Between Stress and Insomnia

What is Insomnia?

Insomnia is a common sleep disorder. Those who suffer from it can have trouble falling asleep, staying asleep and sometimes even both. In many cases, insomniacs also find it hard to go back to sleep if they wake up in the middle of the night. People who have insomnia tend to wake up too early, usually feeling tired and lethargic. Having insomnia can ruin your mood and affect your productivity levels at work, disturbing your health and quality of life.

Insomnia has become an escalated problem in the United States. Nearly one third of all adult Americans are reported to have said that they get insufficient sleep each night. According to the National Institutes of Health, more than 40 million Americans suffer from chronic sleep disorders and around 20 million suffer from disturbed sleep patterns and occasional sleep deprivation.

Common Symptoms of Insomnia

  • Feeling tired during the day
  • Waking up too early
  • Waking up in the middle of the night
  • Finding it hard to fall asleep at night
  • Depression or anxiety
  • Feeling irritated very often
  • Difficulty paying attention and focusing on tasks
  • Difficulty in remembering things
  • Increased chances of mistakes and errors
  • Feeling tired and restless
  • Worrying about sleep
  • Drowsiness

Types of Insomnias

Acute Insomnia

Short-term or acute insomnia is one of the most common sleep disorders. It usually lasts from a few days to a few weeks. It typically occurs when a person experiences a stressful event like the death of a loved one, a break up or is fired from their job. To improve acute insomnia, you might not need excessive therapy or medication. It can be improved by correcting your sleeping habits. Try going to bed early, get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep every night, and avoid caffeine and sugar in the morning. Making your health your number one priority can help you recover from it.

Chronic Insomnia

Chronic insomnia is a more severe type of insomnia and can last for months. It occurs usually as a side effect or a symptom of other primary problems, such as medical conditions, excessive consumption of caffeine, tobacco and alcohol or sleep disorders, like sleep apnea. Some common ways to get rid of chronic insomnia include going to therapy to talk about stressors causing it, taking prescribed medication, avoiding alcohol and caffeine, exercising regularly, going to bed at the same time each night, avoiding gadgets like cellphones before bed and avoiding heavy meals before bed.

Stress and Insomnia

Stress has been linked to many sleep problems for decades now. Many people have or will experience a time in their life when they have trouble falling or staying asleep because of the circumstances that they are in. The two are linked together regardless of culture, age and geographic location.

Different studies have been conducted all over the world to determine the relationships between insomnia and stress. A study conducted in Sweden found that the risk of insomnia in employees was significantly increased when they were exposed to a stressful work environment. Another study conducted in Japan found out that employees with high levels of stress and fewer rewards were more likely to develop sleeping and anxiety disorders. A study of college students conducted in the United States discovered that stress from family problems contributed more towards the high risk of insomnia than tension from academic pressure.

So how does being stressed out effect us? Scientifically, it can cause certain reactions to take place inside our body, brain, immune system and nervous system. Stress can boost the production of a hormone called endocrine and creates a state of hyperarousal, kicking the mind and body into a state of high alert. This state of high alert is one of the underlying causes of insomnia. For most insomniacs, the state of hyperarousal persists throughout the entire day but at night, it can cause great difficulty in falling asleep.

Not being able to sleep at night is another reason why people feel stressed. So while stress causes insomnia, insomnia can further enable you to become stressed. It is a cycle where both feed off of each other. Health Magazine describes this relationship clearly in their YouTube video titled “How Stress and Insomnia Feed Off Each Other | Health.”

Can Stress and Anxiety Cause Insomnia?

Yes. Stressing out or suffering from an anxiety disorder can make it difficult for you to fall asleep at night. There is tension in your body when you are stressed out and while you might not even realize it, your mind and body can feel the tension and as a result, you can suffer from what is an insomnia.

Can Stress Keep You Awake?

Yes! Even though the right amount of stress can increase your focus and make you alert, stressing out too much can keep you awake even when it’s time to fall asleep. Having an anxiety disorder can result in a bad sleep pattern, leading to physical and mental health issues which can, in turn, cause stress in daily life, leading to poor sleep at night.

How Does Stress Affect Sleep?

Stress causes a boost in the production of the stress hormone called endocrine. This causes a heightened state of alertness, which causes delays in sleep and can also lead to sleep deprivation. The rapid and anxious thoughts we get at night can disturb us significantly, preventing us from getting sufficient sleep .

What Are the Causes of Insomnia?

Following are some common causes of insomnia:

  • Stress and anxiety
  • Poor sleep habits
  • Eating too much before bed
  • Excessive caffeine, tobacco, nicotine and alcohol consumption
  • Poor sleeping habits
  • uncomfortable sleep environment
  • Mental health disorders like PTSD and depression
  • Medical conditions like cancer or chronic pain
  • Medications like antidepressants and asthma medication
  • Sleep apnea
  • Changes in health and sleep patterns
  • Aging
  • Changes in activity patterns

Final Words

In conclusion, stress and insomnia are a vicious cycle. They have a strong relationship. They affect and feed off of each other. If you are suffering from insomnia please:

  • Improve your sleep habits
  • Avoid caffeine, alcohol, tobacco and nicotine in large quantities
  • Take care of your stressors (face any problems)
  • Talk it out at therapy
  • Avoid self medication
  • Avoid large meals or beverages shortly before bedtime
  • Use your bed only for sex or sleep
  • Make your room comfortable
  • Limit the number of naps you take
  • Avoid medications that can induce insomnia
  • Exercise regularly
  • Consult a psychiatrist if the problem persists

My toddler has trouble sleeping at night

Are you a parent or guardian of a precious toddler? Is your toddler having issues sleeping at night? Don’t worry, you’re not alone and we are here to help you with this problem.

It is estimated that a toddler sleeps for 11- 14 hours a day. Sleep is an essential part of the growth and development of your baby. Just like adults, even toddlers can suffer from sleep disturbances. Research shows that 20-30% parents of toddlers and young children have reported that their child faces significant difficulty falling or staying asleep. Although sleep issues are common, they are often misinterpreted. There is a perception that by around 6 months of age, if not sooner, babies should be sleeping through the night. According to a study published in the journal Pediatrics, if your baby doesn’t sleep through the night at 6 months, or even at 12 months, it’s perfectly normal. Having said that, its it necessary for toddlers to get a sleep of 8 hours without waking in the night.

There are several reasons that could cause sleep disorders in toddlers. Some toddlers have trouble because there isn’t any set sleep schedule, some have separation anxiety and does not fall asleep without their parents, and some are simply growing older and won’t sleep as many hours as they did before.

Disturbed sleep or improper sleeping pattern can have an effect on the Child’s overall health and hence, It is important to recognize the problem at the right time. Some common signs that your toddler may show if they suffer from sleep disorders are:

  • Snoring.
  • Paused breathing
  • Continuous body movements in sleep and change in positions.
  • Problems with sleeping through the night.
  • Daytime sleepiness.
  • Unexplained lack of activity during the day.

Any of these signs can be an indication that your child isn’t getting good sleep. Some parents quickly start considering sleep training. But many of these issues can be solved with simple tricks and changes in sleep schedule. Your toddler could be having problems when trying to sleep due to a variety of reasons, and it’s important to first understand the problem before you can fix it. Let’s take a look at some common sleep issues that toddlers face, their reason, and how to fix or cope with them.

Common sleep problems in toddlers

Excitement due to change in bed

Sometimes children have trouble falling asleep due to a recent change in their sleep habitat. Your toddler may have just moved to their new bed from a baby crib. The new, larger bed and the newly acquired ability to crawl or walk gets them excited. They are curious about everything, and it gives them a rush. You might observe that they continuously try to get out of bed and want you to indulge with them during sleep time at night.

Many kids show incredible persistence in their excitement and insist on the play. If this happens during their bed or nap time, you need to acquire an equally opposite behavior. Try not to indulge them, and every time they crawl out of bed, calmly tuck them back in. Do not show signs of disappointments or say that you’re upset. This will teach them that bedtime is designated for only sleep, and they’ll slowly get used to it.

Additionally, make sure you turn off any lights and electronic devices that might be distracting them. This problem is often well managed by parents.

Shorter or fewer naps

Toddlers go through a lot of transitions in terms of naps and their total sleep time. If your toddler is between 15 to 18 months old, then they’re likely to undergo transition from two naps in the daytime to only one a day. After the age of 3, they may entirely stop taking naps.

This change in napping schedule can take a toll on your child and may shorten their naps, or decrease the number of times they take them.

This problem can be a bit tricky to deal with in the beginning. There’s no quick fix to it, as your child needs to go through these transitions. However, you can keep a sleep schedule for them and keep track of the number of hours they sleep. Due to lack of sleep, they may act cranky and feel a drain in their energy. Therefore, it’s important to send them to bed at a set time consistently.

Here are the recommended amounts of sleep your child must get:

  • Infants: 12 to 16 hours (including naps)
  • Toddlers: 11 to 14 hours (including naps)
  • Preschoolers: 10 to 13 hours (including naps)
  • Grade school-aged children: 9 to 12 hours
  • Teens: 8 to 10 hours

Separation anxiety

Many children go through separation anxiety when transitioning from their baby phase into their toddler years. It is equally difficult for new parents just as it is for the children. Around the age of 1, children start distinguishing between their primary caretakers and any new characters. You need to treat your child gently, but you’ll also have to be firm about a few things to help them grow out of it.

Consistency in bedtime rituals and routines play a vital role in helping your child cope up with separation anxiety. Make sure their surrounding is calm, noise-free, and ensures sound sleep. It’s also essential to not give in to your child every time they become upset or start crying. DO NOT cry with them, as it reinforces their belief that something terrible is being done to them.

We would also strongly recommend against sneaking out quietly once they start feeling sleepy because it might worsen their anxieties further. They could become more alert towards any movement and will develop trust issues.

Bedtime stalling

Some toddlers just simply don’t like the idea of sleep and show obvious disappointment each time you mention bedtime. They start making silly excuses, so you don’t put them back. Beware! These excuses can also be extremely adorable and might fall into the trap.

There are many ways you can encourage your child not to avoid nap or bedtime. You can hang a sticker board and use their favorite sticker to check-mark each night they go to bed on time.

Another fun way to prepare them for sleep time is having a pre-bedtime routine. You can try reading bedtime stories, sing lullabies, or say goodnight to all their favorite toys and stuffed animals.

Having a sleep-time countdown is another excellent way of mentally preparing them for bedtime. You can start this countdown 20 or 30 minutes before they need to be in bed. Keep announcing the passing of each 5- or 10-minute interval, so it feels like a challenge to them.

Nightmares and bedtime fears

Children have a sharp imagination, and they pick on things quickly. This can result in nightmares during their sleep or bedtime fears. These troubles can leave your child dreading bedtime, and it can be noticed in the anxiety that they show during bedtime.

Your child could be struggling to distinguish their dreams from reality or could be consuming content that’s directing their imagination towards fearsome creatures. Therefore, it’s essential to be mindful of these things and not just ignore these signs so your kids can fall asleep feeling safe at night.

First and foremost, you need to monitor all the content that your child might be exposed to. This includes the stories that they listen to and how other people communicate with them. You need to strictly prohibit the mention of imaginary creatures like “boogeyman” in your house.

You can counter these nightmares by introducing your child to happier and more colorful stories. Another useful trick is to invent make-believe “magic-monster repellent.” It will calm your child once you show them that you’ve used it, and now it’s safe to sleep.

Not feeling sleepy at bedtime

As babies grow into toddlers, there sleep schedule changes. Babies nap much longer hours and sleep most of the time. But as they grow older, this requirement will decrease. So, you’ll have to design their sleep schedule accordingly.

If your child still naps, you’ll probably have to push back on the bedtime a little. There needs to be at least a five-hour gap between their nap and bedtime so that they feel sleepy. For example, if they wake up from their nap at 4 pm, bedtime can’t be possible before 9 pm. You can change their nap times to fit your desired schedule.

Sleep Environment Enhancements

Our first section looks at physical alterations you can add to your bedroom as a way to improve your ability to fall asleep, while also assisting you improve the quality of that sleep.

Blackout Blinds

Blackout blinds are blinds that have been designed using blackout fabric as a way keep your room as dark as possible–and this is important.

Your eyes contain receptors that are sensitive to light. When these receptors are stimulated by light they send signals to your brain, which in turn stimulate feelings of alertness, while also down-regulating feelings of relaxation and tiredness. As you can imagine, this not only makes it difficult to fall asleep, but also reduces your quality of sleep throughout the night [1].

Check out our full review of blackout blind options.

Your Skin Can Sense Light

It’s not just your eyes that need protection from light while you sleep–your skin can also sense light (29). This makes sense, because your skin converts sunlight into vitamin D, so of course it is light sensitive. Blackout blinds protect your whole body from light, not just your eyes.

The use of blackout blinds in the bedroom has been shown to reduce light entering the room, thus increasing your ability to fall asleep in the short term. This has also been shown to aid in the regulation of normal sleep hormone secretion, which can actually improve your sleep quality in the long term [2].

Sleep Aid Device

The Dodow sleep aid device is a new introduction to the sleep market. This unique little machine projects a halo of subtle light onto your ceiling (so subtle that it will not stimulate the light receptors in the eye), which pulses in a gentle and rhythmic manner.

By synchronizing your breathing with the rhythm of the light, Dodow creates a relaxing effect by stimulating your parasympathetic nervous system. This reduces blood pressure and heart rate, and improves hormone function, putting your body in a deep state of relaxation [7].

Through this mechanism, the Dodow has the capacity to help you fall asleep faster, while also putting you in a deeper sleep state throughout the duration of the night [8]. This can cause serious improvements in sleep quality.

Sound Machines

Sound machines are designed with the intent to make white noise–a unique noise that functions as a type of anti-noise. This means that it doesn’t demand any focus, and as a result, acts as a distraction from normal thought and focus.

This noise also physically dampens and muffles other sounds and noises that could demand attention and promote wakefulness—for example, outside traffic, a dripping trap, or even your partner’s snoring.

As a result, the use of sound machines at night have been shown to not only enhance sleep quality, but also prolong sleep duration and reduce the speed required for you to fall asleep [34]–essentially ticking all of the sleep related boxes!

Essential Oil Diffusers

Essential oil diffusers are specifically designed machines that disperse essential oils into the air, causing their natural aroma to completely fill the room.

There are a number of different styles of essential oil diffusers that can be used, some of which are much more complex than others – the thing to remember is that they all aim to do the same thing!

Now these machines only have the ability to enhance sleep quality if you use them in combination with appropriate essential oils.  With that in mind, the aroma of essential oils derived from lavender and clary sage have both been shown to cause large improvement in sleep quality and relaxation, making them your best bet [56].

Falling Asleep Faster with Wearables

With the things that we can add to your room, there are also certain things that you can wear that also have the ability to improve your sleep quality in a huge way.

Eye Masks

Commonly known as sleep masks, eye masks are most commonly made from fabric that blocks all light from entering the eyes.

In doing so, these masks reduce the neural stimulation caused from light. As a result, they have been suggested to improve your ability to fall sleep, help you maintain a deeper sleep, and ensure that you stay asleep for longer – all with less sleep disturbances throughout the duration of night.

And the research really supports this, showing that those individuals who use eye masks on a regular basis fall much asleep faster than those who don’t [9]. These same individuals also tend to have better global sleep quality, suggesting that eye masks also have the ability to promote a deeper and less restless sleep [10].

See our full review of sleep masks for help on choosing the right one for you.

Blue Blocking Glasses

We have already mentioned how light exposure can stimulate the brain, thus causing wakefulness. But what we didn’t mention is that certain types of light are much worse than others – with the most detrimental to sleep being blue light, which is emitted from electronic devices such as phones and tablets.

This light causes huge disruptions in your circadian rhythm, making it extremely difficult to fall asleep, while also causing large reductions in sleep quality throughout the night.

Blue light blocking glasses are specially designed glasses that stop this blue light from reaching your eyes. Using amber coloured lenses, these glasses effectively stop all blue light from reaching the eyes surface – thus ensuring that they do not stimulate the brain.

Research has shown that simply wearing these glasses for three hours before bed can cause huge improvements in your ability to fall asleep, while also ensuring that you maintain a deeper and more restful sleep throughout the night’s duration [1112].

Check out our full review to find the best blue blocking glasses for you.

Ear Plugs

Environmental noise (such as outside traffic or your partners snoring) can stimulate key receptors within the ear, which in turn send signals to brain. These signals heighten sensations of alertness, essentially inducing a state of wakefulness that can make it quite the challenge to fall asleep.

Earplugs offer an easy and affordable method of reducing this audible stimulation, therefore increasing sensations of relaxation.

Evidence shows that individuals who start using earplugs on a regular basis will typically fall asleep much faster than they did prior to using earplugs. Additionally, they also tend to experience a deeper more restful sleep, in which they are less likely to wake throughout the night [1314].

See our full review of earplug options for sleeping.

One way to enhance your sleep quality is to listen to either white noise or environmental sounds. These sounds actually reduce brain stimulation, putting you in a more restful state – which as you can imagine, enhances your ability to fall asleep.

The kicker here is that not everyone wants to listen to these noises – which means that headphones offer the most effective option to keep you and the rest of your household happy.

By providing you with a private method of listening to these sleep-inducing sounds, and also blocking out any annoying external noises, headphones offer a great way to help you fall asleep faster, and maintain a deeper sleep through the night [15].

Check out our full review of the best headphones for sleeping.

Use the Right Bedding

Very much like both our wearables and our bedroom additions, we can also make some changes to our bedding to cause substantial improvements in sleep quality.

As obvious as it may seem, your pillow can have a massive impact on not only your ability to fall asleep, but also a number of other key sleep indicators as well. Having a quality pillow can make you less likely to wake during the night, reduce sleep disruption, and even improve neck and back health over the duration of your lifetime [16].

With this in mind, choosing the best pillow to suit your sleep style, your individual poster, and your personal comfort preference is essential to making your bedroom more ‘sleep friendly’, and thus increase your sleep quality.

What’s “best” for you will depend on your situation. For example, there are certain pillows that are ideal for sleep apnea, for neck pain, and then there are many that are just customized for individual comfort.

Grounding sheets are designed to provide the body with a connection to the earths natural negative charge.  While this may sound a little bit far fetched, there is reason to believe that this application of charge can actually down regulate the body’s hormonal and nervous systems, enhancing recovery and relaxation.

Taking this into consideration, research has shown that the application of grounding in this manner can reduce cortisol secretion and enhance sensations of relaxation [17].

Moreover, when using the application of grounding, individuals have been shown to fall asleep much quicker than they do without that grounding.   Within this, they also appear to wake up feeling more refreshed and with more energy [18], providing a pretty clear demonstration of their effectiveness in this manner.

Here is our top recommendation for grounding sheets.

Dr. Eric Wood, N.D.

The Naturopathic Doctor says…

Also don’t forget two simple yet powerful tools to improve your sleep:
1) Taking an epsom salt or peat moss bath: the act of soaking in warm, mineral-rich water can help the body go into ‘parasympathetic dominance’, which is our ‘rest and digest mode’, many people struggle with due to overly busy schedules, not winding down before bed, etc. It also helps the body start to regulate it’s temperature for bedtime. Most individuals are unaware that our body temp needs to drop approximately 0.4 degrees celsius to sleep well. This can also be helped by…

2) Turning down the thermostat. Ever tried to sleep on a hot, sticky summer night? It doesn’t tend to work too well as your body is struggling to be able to cool and drop down that body temp, so you can reach deeper and more restful sleep.

Organic Sheets

Organic sheets are quite simply sheets made from completely organic materials. Typical sheets and bedding are made with numerous plastic and industrial grade compounds that not only have a negative impact on the environment, but can also cause mild irritation and health issues – and obviously organic sheets completely mitigate this.

These specific sheets are well known for being extremely soft and incredibly comfortable. They are also ideal for those who suffer from allergies, or have sensitive skin. Moreover, given that they breathe a whole lot better than regular cotton sheets, they increase sleep comfort throughout the entire night [19].

Through each of these interactions, organic sheets appear to be a simple and effective means of enhancing sleep.

See our full review of organic bedding options.

Very much like our pillow section mentioned above, your mattress is one of the single most important things that you can consider when it comes to sleep. Your mattress essentially dictates your comfort levels throughout the entire night.

As a result, having a good quality mattress that suits your needs has been shown to improve your ability to fall asleep, increase the quality and duration of that sleep, and even ensure you wake up feeling more rested than you would otherwise [20].

Taking this into consideration, finding a mattress that suits your individual comfort needs is essential – so do your research and choose wisely!

Use Natural Supplements to Fall Asleep Quickly

Like most things, there are a number of specific compounds that have actually been shown to enhance sleep quality. These compounds are completely organic in nature, and have the ability to interact with the body extremely positive manner.

Chamomile is a specific herb that comes from the flowers of the Asteraceae family.

While used for thousands of years as a bit of a cure all, recent research has shown that chamomile contains two groups of compounds known as flavonoids and terpenoids. These compounds are highly bioactive, in which they interact with the brain at a cellular level to both improve health and reduce nervous system hyperactivity.

Through this unique interaction, chamomile supplements have been shown to elicit significant improvements in both sleep quality and sleep duration after as little as two weeks of consumption [22] – which is pretty damn effective if you ask me!

Dr. Ahmad Alsayes, M.D.

The Medical Doctor says…

Chamomile is one of the most ancient medicinal herbs we know, and when we drink its aqueous extract (in form of tea) regularly, it can effectively work as a mild sedative to calm nerves and reduce anxiety and to treat nightmares, insomnia and other sleep problems.

Passion Flower

Passion Flower is quite simply a climbing vine that is easily recognised by its bright purple flowers. Found growing natively throughout south-eastern sections of the United States, and both Central and South America, this amazing plant has been used for thousands of years in traditional medicinal practices.

Amazingly, the supplementation of this unique bioactive plant before bed has been shown to cause large and measurable improvements in both sleep duration and sleep quality, while also reducing the amount of time it takes to fall asleep [23].

This genuinely makes passion flower one of the most potent natural sleep boosters on the planet.

See our full review of passion flower supplements for sleep.

Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral found within the human body – and also one of the most important. It is essential to all living cells, where it plays a number of roles ensuring the success of many physiological functions.

It is required to produce energy, allow the production of your DNA, and is even used to build and repair enzymes, proteins, and the body’s tissue.

Interestingly, it also plays a key role in the management of sleep. As a result, its supplementation has been shown to reduce feelings of stress and anxiety [24], while also increasing sensation of relaxation, thus contributing to enhanced sleep quality [25].

L-Tryptophan is a specific supplemental form of tryptophan.

Tryptophan is a specific type of protein known as an essential amino acid.  It is considered essential because it is vital the normal health and function of the human body, however it cannot be synthesized within the human body.

Tryptophan is so important because it assists in the production of melatonin in the brain. Melatonin is an important hormone that helps with the regulation of the body’s circadian rhythm, and therefore helps maintain normal sleep patterns.

Taking this into consideration, the supplementation of tryptophan has been shown to increase melatonin production in the brain. This in turn causes large improvement in sleep quality and duration, while also helping you fall asleep easier [2627].

See our full review of tryptophan supplements for sleep.

Laura Myers, RDN

The Nutritionist says…

“Drinking a glass of tart cherry juice has also been shown to help aid in sleep. Tart cherries are a natural source of melatonin, which helps to regulate your sleep cycles. In addition, tart cherry juice has been shown to increase to availability of tryptophan–a precursor to serotonin. Tart cherry juice can be found at most grocery stores in the juice aisle.”

We have already touched on the importance of melatonin in regards to the management of the circadian rhythm, and the promotion of sleep. However, what we failed to mention was that melatonin can also be taken in a supplement form.

As a result, this has obvious and positive implications for sleep quality, much in the same manner as tryptophan. However, as an added bonus, using melatonin to aid sleep has also been shown to improve morning alertness and energy throughout the following day.

This suggests that using melatonin to promote sleep may also improve overnight recovery, which has a myriad of additional health benefits [28].

Dodow Review: Breakthrough Sleep Aid or Just Hype? (2020 Update)

Review of: Dodow

Used for: Getting to sleep faster

Immediately effective half the time, works for most people given enough time.

Long-lasting device is very affordable, especially compared to sleeping pills.

Ease of Use

Almost ridiculously simple operation.

What We Like
What We Don’t Like

The Dodow is a simple device that helps train your brain to go to sleep faster. I have found it to be very effective and in the long run, extremely affordable. It’s only one component of an overall strategy for getting more and better sleep, but it’s an excellent addition. Nearly anyone can use it, with one important exception noted in the article below.

Why You May Need a Sleep Aid Device

Insomnia sucks. I know…I’ve been there many, many times.

Nothing is a bigger waste of time than laying in bed and staring at the ceiling. And insomnia isn’t just an annoyance at night, it wrecks your productivity and enjoyment of the next day.

Worse, the impact on your overall health is far greater than that. Adequate sleep is every bit as important as good nutrition. Your body requires sleep in order to stay healthy.

Seven to eight hours of restful sleep is necessary for cell regeneration throughout your body. Going without enough sleep for extended periods of time can lead to new health problems and make chronic conditions worse.

I am always looking for a good solution, or at least an addition to my arsenal of sleeping tools, and I kept seeing this device mentioned all over the web:

Turns out that the Dodow device has been proven to help you fall into a deep, restful, regenerative sleep more quickly and stay asleep longer. It does this in part by helping you slow down your busy mind.

So I decided to buy one, see if it helps me fall asleep and write this Dodow review to share my results. I don’t expect it to otherwise affect the quality of my sleep really, but just being able to get to sleep on a reasonable schedule solves a big part of the problem for me.

How the Dodow Sleep Light Works

The Dodow shines a circular light on the ceiling that increases and decreases in size rhythmically, similar to a metronome. Focusing on the rhythmic light while controlling your breathing calms the mind and helps your body relax so that you can quickly fall into a deep, restful sleep.

All you have to do is stare at the ceiling, something most sleepless people find themselves doing naturally. It’s not wasted time if it’s putting you to sleep.

Inhale when the light expands and exhale when it contracts. While focusing on the light your mind is less prone to thinking about things that cause stress.

Worry over events of the day, upcoming deadlines or troublesome personal interactions is naturally reduced and eventually completely eliminated, making it much easier to relax and quickly fall asleep.

Controlling the duration of your inhales and exhales also helps you fall asleep by triggering your baroreflex which in turn balances the autonomic nervous system.

The baroreflex is triggered after your breathing slows from 11 breaths per minute to 6 breaths per minute with the inhale lasting 4 seconds and the exhale lasting 6 seconds. The video below shows the device in action.

The Dodow light helps you effortlessly control your breathing to trigger the baroreflex without even thinking about what you’re doing. You won’t need to count to 4 while inhaling then count to 6 while exhaling. Simply time your breathing with the fluctuating blue light.

Is the Dodow Smart Light Easy to Use?

Dodow is easy to use, but not necessarily intuitive to use. When a device only has one button, it matters how you tap it. So just read through the simple instructions once and you’ll be all set.

It can be tricky to get it open to install the batteries. The first Dodow device, or version 1, appears to be the most difficult one to get open for battery installation. The company seems to have fixed the problem with the second or version 2 device. Once the batteries are installed, it is very easy to use.

The button below will take you to the official Dodow site, which has the best price available as of August 26, 2020.

Who Is Dodow For?

With one exception (detailed below), anyone who wants to get to sleep faster can benefit from using the Dodow. Particularly if you’re prone to racing thoughts like I am, it’s a helpful tool for calming the mind and getting to sleep.

Who Should NOT Use Dodow?

Photosensitive epilepsy causes people with this disorder to experience seizures when exposed to flickering or strobing light. Unfortunately, blue light can be a significant problem for people with this type of epilepsy who are also visually impaired. Such people commonly can’t watch television due to the blue light that all televisions produce.

Fortunately, the Dodow blue light is much weaker than the blue light that emanates from televisions. People have not reported having seizures while using Dodow, but, if you have photosensitive epilepsy, it may be a good idea to avoid it. At the very least, consult with your medical professional before using Dodow if you have photosensitive epilepsy.

Is the Dodow Device Effective?

To see if the Dodow lives up to the hype, I tested it with the help of my significant other. Why did I need help? Because it’s pretty hard to time how long it takes you to fall asleep without an observer.

So I took a little time to set it up and read the directions, then I used the device per the instructions. It typically takes me about half an hour to wind down and fall asleep once my body hits the bed, which is longer than I’d like. I’d rather be clocking some sleep cycles in that time.

The first night I was getting used to it and it didn’t seem to shorten my time to sleep, but I think that was just training. Each night for a week after that I was able to fall asleep in 10 minutes or less; it took less than 5 minutes in one case

Below you can see the Dodow in action as I was testing the light against the headboard.

Dodow Reviews

For better or worse, I was also able to test it as a way to get back to sleep after waking in the middle of the night. This was the bigger test in my mind because I’m typically up for 2 hours when that happens. Dodow was effective for this as well, putting me back to sleep in 15 minutes max. That was a big win because while I know that meditation helps me sleep faster, I have trouble disciplining myself to actually do that. This had roughly the same effect and was much easier to execute.

All in all, at least for me the device did what it was supposed to in two different contexts.

Your Questions Answered

Below are questions we’ve gotten from readers about the Dodow device. If you have other questions that aren’t addressed here, leave them in the comments section and we’ll add the answers.

Q: Can the Dodow sleep light cause headaches?

A: There is no evidence to suggest that Dodow causes headaches. There have been no harmful side effects reported. Dodow causes sleepiness with nothing more than a rhythmically flashing light. It is non-addictive and non-toxic

Q: Doesn’t blue light at night cause sleeplessness?

A: The blue light produced by televisions and computer screens has been shown to suppress melatonin secretions which makes it more difficult to fall asleep. In fact, experts will tell you to turn off your television and computer at least an hour before going to bed.

The most common advice is to read a boring book while the body’s melatonin levels recover from exposure to blue light. The blue light produced by Dodow is not nearly as intense as the blue light produced by your television. Such a dim blue light has not been shown to cause sleeplessness.

Blue light has, in fact, been clinically proven to naturally relax people. Researchers at the Brain-Computer Interface Lab at the University of Granada proved that exposure to blue light for 10 minutes relaxed stressed participants.

This stress reduction when combined with controlled breathing actually helps you fall into a deep sleep.

Q: Can the Dodow light intensity be adjusted?

A: The intensity of the blue light can be adjusted easily and should be, depending on the height of your bedroom ceiling. Use a brighter setting if you have high ceilings in your bedroom. Dim it down if your ceiling is lower. You can also dim it if the blue light bothers your partner. The light shouldn’t bother him or her. It should actually help your partner relax and fall asleep more quickly, too. If he or she doesn’t like it, though, simply turn down the light intensity.

Q: Does the Dodow light stay on all night?

A: There is no need for the Dodow light to remain on all night long. It works by helping you fall into a deep sleep, then its job is done. Two settings allow you to choose how long you want the light to stay on. You can turn it on for 8 minutes or 20 minutes. For an 8-minute session, simply tap the surface of the Dodow once. If you want it to stay on for 20 minutes, just tap the device twice. The 20-minute setting is best for the first few sessions.

Q: Will I have to use the Dodow for the rest of my life?

A: Dodow literally trains your brain to relax and fall asleep more quickly. You may be able to fall asleep without the Dodow device after using it for only a few months.

Q: Does the Dodow help with jet lag?

A: Sleeplessness due to jet lag can be easily remedied with Dodow. This is a completely portable device that uses batteries. You can even use it while you’re travelling in Europe without bothering with an electrical adapter.

Q: Will Dodow help me fall asleep when there are noisy people in the house?

A: Yes, Dodow will help you fall asleep even if you are trying to sleep in a house where people are still moving about and making noise, a hotel where there is normal activity around you or even an apartment with noisy neighbors.

It works by drawing your focus and attention away from the noise and triggering your baroreflex. When you’ve triggered your baroreflex and autonomic nervous system, the noise will be much less likely to get your attention and keep you awake.

Q: Are there other devices similar to Dodow?

A: No, there really aren’t. Dodow is currently the only device like it on the market.

Our Recommendation About Dodow

The Dodow seems to be immediately effective about 50% of the time. For those who don’t get immediate relief, the company recommends giving the device a little more time.

The minds of people who have a long history of insomnia or difficulty falling asleep can take time to become trained to fall asleep quickly. It isn’t as easy as just flipping a switch. It takes time for the mind to break a long-standing cycle of sleeplessness.

Medical marijuana and insomnia

Can You Get Medical Marijuana For Insomnia?

There are many sleep aids available for people who suffer from sleep disorders such as insomnia. One solution that has been gaining popularity over the decades is medical marijuana. This substance is preferred over other sleep medication for a variety of reasons.

Many states in the US have legalized cannabis for medical use over the years. This change has made it much easier to be prescribed this natural substance for treating various conditions. So if the big question on your mind is “can you get medical marijuana for insomnia”, the answer can vary depending on the state you live in.

Before looking at marijuana and how it can be used for insomnia, lets learn a bit about the condition itself.

What is insomnia?

Insomnia is a common sleep disorder that affects a large percentage of the population. People who suffer from this condition have trouble falling asleep at night and/or maintaining their sleep state.

Everyone has restless nights now and then. For most people, a bout of sleeplessness usually passes within a night or two. However, some people suffer from a type of insomnia that impedes their slumber for multiple nights in a week. If this condition persists for three or more months, it is termed “chronic” insomnia (

Chronic insomnia that is left untreated can lead to long term sleep loss, which can be damaging to both your physical and mental health. Studies have found that people with long term sleep loss experience depressed mood, and difficulty concentrating. They may also develop hypertension, obesity, and/or diabetes (

How is insomnia treated?

Insomnia can be treated with the help of behavioral therapy. This is a structured program that helps people with insomnia identify thoughts and habits that are impeding their sleep. The goal of this treatment is to replace unhealthy habits with more sleep-friendly ones.

There are also many medications and supplements that can help you get a good night’s rest. Prescription medications such as zolpidem tartrate (Ambien) and emazepam (Restoril) can help you fall asleep  at night.

Over-the-counter sleep aids such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl) and doxylamine succinate (Unisom sleep tabs) can also be used for their sedative effects. Some people prefer to use natural sleep aids such as valerian root and chamomile to induce drowsiness at night.

Many of the aforementioned sleep aids carry risks when they are used in the long term (  Due to this reason, more and more people are turning to medical marijuana for their insomnia.

Why you should try medical marijuana for insomnia

Marijuana (or cannabis) is derived from a natural plant. It offers many therapeutic benefits, such as relaxing tense muscles ( and providing relief for chronic pain ( Many types of cannabis are also effective at helping you sleep (

You should consider trying medical marijuana if you are interested in using a natural sleep aid for your insomnia. The cannabis flowers or “bud” that are provided to medical marijuana patients undergo little to no processing, which makes it a great option for people who want to avoid lab-manufactured sleeping pills or sleep aids.

Some of the side effects associated with prescription medication can be severe and lead to serious health problems if they are used long term. In addition to this, many sleeping pills can be addictive and create dependence.

Using medical cannabis for insomnia may be safer compared to certain sleep medications.  While this substance can be habit forming, it is far more difficult to consume a fatal quantity of cannabis compared to sleeping pills ( However, the long-term effects of consuming cannabis are still being studied.

How does medical marijuana work for insomnia

Certain types of medical cannabis produce a calming and sedating effect when they are consumed. The combination of these effects can help you sleep at night.  The therapeutic properties of cannabis can be attributed to the active compounds in this substance.

The two primary active compounds in medical marijuana are cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

Cannabidiol (CBD)

Cannabidiol is a compound that is used to help with a variety of health problems, including sleep disorders. It is believed that CBD is responsible for medical marijuana’s anxiety calming and pain relieving properties. The combination of these effects can help insomnia patients fall asleep at night and maintain a sleep state (

Research has also found that the CBD affects the body’s sleep cycles, which could help you fall asleep faster at night (

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)

THC is the main active compound in marijuana. It is responsible for the psychoactive effects that are normally associated with cannabis. Studies have found that this compound may help you fall asleep faster, but it could worsen your sleep quality if used long term (

Medical marijuana patients who want to treat their insomnia often opt for cannabis strains with high concentrations of CBD and low concentrations of THC. This allows them to benefit from the pain relief and sleep inducing effects of CBD without experiencing the strong psychoactive “high” caused by THC.

How can I get a medical marijuana prescription?

Medical cannabis is currently legal in the 33 states and DC ( If you live in a state where medical marijuana is legal, you may be able to get a medical marijuana prescription from a doctor.

However, not every doctor is willing to prescribe their patients medical cannabis for insomnia. States have strict requirements around which patient conditions qualify for medical marijuana treatment. Unfortunately, insomnia is not on this list of conditions (

However, you may be able to get a medical marijuana prescription in certain states if you suffer from conditions such as chronic pain or sleep apnea. If you are prescribed cannabis for one of these conditions, it may be able to help with your insomnia.

Other ways to get marijuana for insomnia

If you live in a state where recreational cannabis is legal, you won’t need a doctor’s prescription to purchase marijuana. As long as you are of legal age in your state, you should be able to acquire cannabis legally and use it to help with your insomnia. However, many of the cannabis strains sold by dispensaries and online stores in your state may not be suitable for treating insomnia.

You may need to try several different strains that have high concentrations of CBD and low concentrations of THC before finding one that helps with your insomnia.  However, this trial and error process may not be enjoyable for everyone. You may experience the unwanted side effects of using cannabis such as anxiety and coordination problems when you try certain strains.

If you live in a state where both medical and recreational cannabis are illegal, you may still be able to purchase hemp-derived products that help you sleep. Many online stores sell CBD oil products that contain no THC. These oils are made by extracting the active compounds in hemp and isolating the CBD separately.

CBD isolate products are federally legal to sell and use because they contain virtually no THC (i.e.: the compound that makes cannabis illegal). This allows you to benefit from the sleep-inducing qualities of cannabis without breaking the law. It should be noted that some states still have restrictions on possessing CBD products without a prescription (

The following video explains some of the benefits of using CBD oil:

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some frequently asked questions about medical cannabis.

Q: Where can I get marijuana for my sleep disorder?

A: If you live in a state where medical cannabis is legal, you may be able to get a medical marijuana prescription from a doctor. However, your insomnia may not necessarily qualify you as a medical marijuana patient. If you live in a state where recreational cannabis is legal, you can purchase it from a dispensary without requiring a prescription.

Q: Is marijuana effective in curing insomnia

A: Marijuana may not necessarily “cure” your insomnia, but studies have found that it can help you fall asleep faster. Cannabis strains high in CBD and low in THC may be suitable for this purpose. However, long term cannabis use may reduce your sleep quality.

Medical cannabis may be helpful for treating insomnia. It offers some advantages over prescription medications and over-the-counter sleep aids. If you live in a state where medical cannabis is legal, you may be able to get a prescription from a doctor.

However, you may have trouble qualifying for a medical cannabis prescription for your insomnia. If you live in a state where recreational cannabis is legal, you can purchase it without a prescription. People living in states where it is illegal may still be able to purchase CBD oil products that offer the calming and sedating effects of marijuana.

Sleep aids for chronic insomnia

Top Sleep Aids For Chronic Insomnia

Do you have trouble sleeping at night? Millions of Americans suffer from sleep problems every year (  For many, this problem usually resolves itself within a few days. This condition is termed “acute insomnia”, and is usually caused by stress or short-term illness.

However, another type of insomnia known as “chronic” insomnia takes far longer to resolve. People with this condition have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep for more than three nights a week for a period of three months or more. If left unchecked, chronic insomnia can result in long term sleep loss.

This can lead to physical and/or mental health problems such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, anxiety, and depressed mood (

Chronic insomnia can be caused by prolonged stress as well as underlying medical conditions. This can make it harder to treat. If you suffer from this problem, there are many sleep aids that could help you get a good night’s rest.

How to treat chronic insomnia

Before we take a look at the top sleep aids for chronic insomnia, it’s important to note that many people are able to treat their condition with the help of behavioral therapy. This treatment approach aims to identify the thoughts and behaviors that cause or aggravate the problem, and replace them with ones that promote better sleep.(

This includes healthy sleep practices such as following a consistent sleep schedule, avoiding stimulants such as nicotine and caffeine late in the day, creating a comfortable sleep environment, and using relaxation techniques before bed. People suffering from chronic insomnia should give behavioral therapy a try before turning to sleep medicine for treatment.

Using sleep aids to help with chronic insomnia

Sleep aids typically consist of over-the-counter supplements or natural herbs and compounds that help you fall asleep. They are distinct from prescription sleeping pills, which often create dependence and lead to health problems if they are used regularly.

You do not need a prescription to purchase sleep aids as they are generally non-addictive and carry few (if any) long-term health risks. However, using this sleep medicine frequently can lead to the user feeling groggy or unwell the next day (

Some popular sleep aids for helping with chronic insomnia  are shown below.

Diphenhydramine is an over-the-counter sleep aid that belongs to a class of medications known as antihistamines. It works by blocking histamines produced by your body during allergic reactions. This also has the effect of helping you relax and fall asleep.

Adults suffering from insomnia can take 50 mg of Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride once a day before bedtime. This sleeping aid also comes in the form of Diphenhydramine Citrate. Adults can take 76 mg of this medication once a day before bedtime (

Taking this medication may produce side effects such as drowsiness, blurred vision, dry mouth, and stomach upset .(

Some sleep aids containing Diphenhydramine are shown below:

Doxylamine is another over-the-counter antihistamine used to treat insomnia.  Adults suffering from sleep problems can take 25 mg of Doxylamine medication should be taken 30 minutes before bedtime .

Doxylamine has interactions with many other drugs, including fentanyl, isocaroxazid, sodium oxybate, and valerian ( Talk to your doctor before taking this medication if you are using other medicines at the same time.

Some possible side effects of taking Doxylamine include dry mouth, dizziness, blurred vision, and decreased sweating.

Melatonin is a hormone that is produced naturally within the body. It is primarily released by the pineal gland. Its main function is to regulate the body’s natural sleep-wake cycle.

People who are having trouble sleeping can take melatonin supplements regularly to help them fall asleep faster.  There is no standard dose for this over-the-counter sleep aid; however, the dose used in most studies ranges from 1 mg to 10 mg (

If you are interested in trying this over-the-counter sleep aid, you should start by taking a small dose two hours before bed ( If this dosage does not prove to be effective, you can gradually increase your intake of melatonin over several days.

Unlike sleeping pills, melatonin does not create a dependence in the user. People taking this supplement are also unlikely to build up a tolerance to it (

Side effects are uncommon with melatonin. However, if you take too much, you may experience nausea, headaches, dizziness, depressed mood, and stomach cramps (

Taking valerian root may produce mild side effects such as headache, restlessness, dizziness, and stomach upset.

Sleep Masks

A sleep mask could be just the thing your loved one needs to fight their sleep problems. Sometimes, the unnecessary light disturbance is the reason most people struggle to stay asleep. A sleep mask could be the perfect solution for this agonizing problem. It would prevent any invasion of light during the sleep time of its user.

You need to choose a sleep mask that is light on the eyes and doesn’t feel tight or heavy on the head. Some eye masks are made of thick cloth, which can be very uncomfortable to keep on through the night. To make sure that your selected mask reduces your friend’s problem instead of adding to them, you should consider getting them a sleep mask made of silk.

Silk is very light on the skin and provides a comforting and soothing feeling. It will keep disturbing lights out of the sleeper’s sight and will help them doze off smoothly.

Plush masks are another great option as they are also very comfortable on the eyes and set the mood for sleep. Eye masks are easy to maintain and carry around. They are washable and can be used multiple times.

These blankets are also very comfy and make the user want to stay in bed for longer periods. Therefore, friends who don’t enjoy the process of tossing and turning in bed all night may find this present a blessing.

Weighted blankets are widely available, and you can also order them online. Check out the bestsellers on Amazon for a few choices, and have the present delivered at your loved one’s doorstep.

For instance, if you’re traveling on the plane and the noise is not letting you sleep, earplugs will become the day savers.
