How to Clean Your Grounding Mat

November 24, 2022 By Mark Hansen

A grounding mat can be an effective way to balance your body’s electrical energy. No matter how you use your grounding mat, from sleeping to exercising and more, there’s no denying that at some point, you’ll want to clean your grounding mat.

Consistent use over time will collect unwanted bacteria and germs to buildup on your mat. However, how you clean your grounding mat matters. Incorrectly using the wrong cleaner can impact the effectiveness of the mat’s conductivity.

Read on to learn how you can properly clean your grounding mat to ensure it maintains its conductive capabilities.

How Not to Clean Your Grounding Mat

When cleaning your grounding mat, the last thing you want to do is accidentally ruin your mat’s conductivity. Therefore, never use chlorine bleach, liquid fabric softener, or any form of detergent that may contain bleach or fabric softener. This is because the chemicals found in these solutions can ruin your mat’s conductivity.

You should also never put your grounding mat in a washing machine or dryer, as this can damage your grounding mat’s conductivity.

Plus, whenever cleaning your grounding mat, always ensure to unplug the cord from the product. This will ensure there is no transference of electrical energy going into the mat while you clean it.

Materials To Clean a Grounding Mat

To clean your grounding mat, use a noncorrosive cleaner. In other words, a cleaner that will not be able to react chemically with your grounding mat. Otherwise, corrosive cleaners can cause damage to your grounding mat’s conductivity.

If you are doing a quick clean, consider using a damp cloth to wipe down your mat. However, for a deeper clean, consider using ordinary dish soap and water.

Steps to Clean Your Grounding Mat

If you are deep cleaning your grounding mat, follow these simple steps:

  1. Gather your materials: Dish soap, water, and 2 clothes.
  2. Wipe Down Mat: Using a damp cloth mixed with a small amount of dish soap, wipe down the outside of your mat.
  3. Wipe Away Soap & Water: With a clean, damp cloth, wipe away the excess soapy water on the mat. This will ensure no leftover soap on your mat’s surface is blocking your mat’s ability to ground.
  4. Dry: Allow your grounding mat to air dry.

Following the above four steps will help ensure your grounding mat can function properly. Otherwise, you risk damaging the conductivity of the mat that enables the indirect transference of electrical energy.

Without conductivity, your grounding mat would just be like any ordinary mat, so be sure to take the proper time and care to carefully clean your grounding mat.
