How to Make an Earthing Sheet

How to make a grounding sheet

November 24, 2020 By Mark Hansen

As an insomniac, I know exactly how hard it can be to get a good night’s rest. I was at the point where I was willing to try anything to stay asleep–but nothing seemed to be working. That is until one of my friends mentioned their grounding products.

Before this, I was unaware of the benefits of earthing. But, once I started experimenting with grounding or earthing products, I finally was able to sleep.

Safe, effective & high quality sheets.

Hand selected by our editors.

In this guide, I am going to go over in detail how you can make your own grounding sheet at home. These products can be expensive to buy and not many people want to pay before they know if earthing works for them. By making a DIY sheet first, you can make sure grounding works for you.

Let’s get started.

Materials Needed for a DIY Grounding Sheet

Before you make your homemade earthing sheet, you are going to want to make sure you have all of these materials on hand.

You will need:

  1. A copper rod or copper pipe, you can find them at a hardware store
  2. A copper coupling device
  3. A window nearby that can be left slightly open OR a hole drilled in a wall

This method is easy to do. You do not need to be an engineer to ground yourself at home when you follow these steps.

By creating this earthing method, you are actually grounding your bed to the earth. This process helps your body handle free radicals and the health benefits that come with it.

Tools You Need

Next, you want to be sure you have the proper tools available.

You will need:

  1. A hammer
  2. Some wire
  3. A drill (if you do not have a window nearby)
  4. A roll of duct tape
  5. A utility knife or something to strip wire
  6. An alligator clip

When working with these tools, make sure that you are safe. While this is an easy project, anytime you are doing a DIY you should be cautious.

These are the steps you need to take to construct your homemade grounding mat. You will start to build earthing vitality after using it for a few weeks, some people take more time for their body to respond to the electromagnetic fields.

Steps to Make a Cheap DIY Earthing Sheet

In my search for an easy and cheap grounding sheets DIY, this method helped me make contact with the earth. After using my earthing mat consistently, I noticed the health benefits taking place in my body. I could finally stay in bed all night and even felt rested in the morning.

This is what you need to do:

  1. Start by hammering your rod or water pipe into the earth outside your window.
  2. Take a piece of wire long enough to go from your window through a hole in the wall to your ground rod outside. Before you place it, make sure that you have stripped the insulation from both ends of the grounding wire. You can do this with your utility knife.
  3. Run the wire through your window or a small hill drilled through your house.
  4. Next, take your copper coupling and flatten it by hitting it with your hammer. It should almost be flat.
  5. Put the stripped wire into the coupling and flatten it more with the hammer. The wire should securely stay in place when you are finished.
  6. Now, you can insert the coupling into your sheet. Either affix the wire to the sheet with tape or weave it into the sheet such that it is directly beneath you when you sleep, touching your skin. Direct skin contact is essential since it connects you with the earth. If the wire bothers you while you are in bed, you can put the coupling into a wrist band and hold it against your arm.

The charge from your body will travel through your grounding wire and be discharged into the ground outside. This process gives you the same benefits as earthing sheets and is pretty easy to set up. Many people who have tried this method said that it was easy to sleep at night and made them feel especially grounded.

That was how to make your own grounding sheets. I tried this method before buying any products and it worked so well that I decided to buy an actual sheet for earthing later.

If the weather is dry, make sure that you wet the pipe or rod that is outside. When it comes to earthing, grounding the pipe with water enhances its ability to carry positive electrons to you.

That being said, the most cost-effective option will always be to take a walk barefoot when you can and get vitamin D from the sun. Your body voltage is naturally adjusted when you collect the earth’s electrons through your feet. It costs nothing and will greatly boost your earthing vitality.

I have more posts you can read on this topic, so check them out for additional information.

Never skip checking your design with the resistor and never use this method when there is lightning outside.

Homemade Earthing Sheet Modifications

I realize that not everyone is going to want to use that method or mess with a bottom sheet. Luckily, there are other ways to boost your connection with the earth at home. I thought it would be a good idea to list alternative earthing methods here.

This second method is also simple and cost-effective, although you will need a little bit of knowledge on how electricity works to complete it.

Materials

You will need:

  1. A grounded plug end, from a hardware or electrical store
  2. A 1/2 watt (10Kohm) resistor, from an electrical store
  3. 12-inch electrical wire and another 10 feet of wire
  4. Electrical tape or wire nuts
  5. Outlet checker and circuit checker
  6. Copper coupling
  7. A hammer
  8. A utility knife or something to strip wire

How to Make It

  1. Strip both ends of your wire. Take one end of the shorter wire and bring it to the ground terminal on the electrical plug.
  2. Attach the other end to the resistor. You can do this with your tape or a wire nut.
  3. Flatten the copper coupling onto the long wire. This part should also be stripped. Hit it with the hammer until completely flat and the wire is held in place.
  4. Test the outlet you want to use with your grounding checker before plugging the earthing device in.
  5. Test the circuit by plugging the device into the bottom plug on the outlet. Put on the probe into the top outlet, then touch the other end to the flat coupling. If your circuit checker lights up, the circuit is working.
  6. When completed, plug in the device and drop the coupling into your sheet or attach it to your wrist.

This method works a little differently than the last one. It is a little more complicated to set up.

When you do this, you are not absorbing electricity from the wall. Instead, the outlet is draining a positive charge from you. You can still easily lay in bed.

Never skip checking your design with the resistor and never use this method when there is lightning outside.

Summary of the Whole Process

When you ground yourself to the outside, you are absorbing electrons from the earth. If you would rather find a company to make the products for you, there are plenty of options out there.

Many people prefer to practice earthing/grounding while they sleep. Being in bed is a time to relax, so you are still enough for grounding to take place.

So, by grounding to the earth through a wire, you are getting the same benefits. When it comes to how to make grounding sheets, you really just need to remember to create that connection to the earth.

When you do, your autonomic nervous system can work to its best possible potential.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Can We Make Earthing Products at Home?

Making earthing at home is simple. All you need to do is establish a connection between your skin and the ground. If you want an idea on how to do that, be sure to read the above sections in this blog post.

Do Earthing Sheets Really Work?

In my experience, yes. I was always feeling jet lag before I started earthing/grounding while I slept. We are often hindered by free radicals since we wear rubber shoes outside. They block the natural electrons coating the ground from traveling through your feet.

How Long Does Earthing Take to Work?

We all react to grounding differently. The more you ground, the more likely it is to work. It took me a few weeks to notice the benefits. You might take longer or shorter.

If your DIY setup is not working, be sure that you wet the ground rod with salt water frequently. The problem may be with the climate you live in.

Final Thoughts on How to Make an Earthing Sheet
