Using a grounding mat can provide several health benefits, from improving your energy levels to reducing stress and anxiety, and more. However, you may be wondering if it’s possible to “get too much of a good thing”.

There’s no denying grounding has powerful effects to improve your health and well-being. Yet,  grounding can also negatively impact your body if you start grounding too much too quickly.

It’s essential to give your body plenty of time to get used to the flow of negative electrical energy. Read on to learn more if you are using too much of your earthing mat too soon.


Start Slow

If you are new to grounding, it is essential you start slowly and follow the mat’s manufacturer guidelines exactly as intended. When just starting, most grounding mats will direct users to only use the mat for 10 to 40 minutes per day.

Failing to allow your body to ease your way into grounding can cause discomfort. Therefore, consistently using your grounding mat in short increments each day is essential.


Work Your Way Up

After using your grounding mat consistently each day for at least 10 minutes, you can start slowly working your way up to longer amounts of time. This is because over time your body will adjust to the negative electrical energy flow, and not become too overwhelmed by the sudden change in electrical energy.

Consider stretching or practicing yoga on your grounding mat to start as a way to use your mat in shorter increments. Then, as you stretch out your length of time grounding, consider taking short naps on your mat. You can even sleep a full 8 hours night’s rest on your grounding mat as long as you’ve given your body ample time to adjust to the electrical energy flow.

It can be tempting to get overexcited and wrongfully assume that you can immediately use your grounding mat overnight when you are just starting. However, again this can negatively impact your health. So, gradually work your way up and you will experience the benefits of grounding in no time!

Consistency is Key

Consistency is essential when grounding. Not only is consistency important to experience the optimal benefits of grounding, but you can’t expect your body to adjust to grounding without consistently using your grounding mat.

Try to use your grounding mat each day, and gradually work your way up in time. It’s important to understand many users may not experience noticeable changes for the first few weeks of using your grounding mat.

Yet, by using your mat each day and slowly extending the amount of time you use your mat, you’ll slowly but surely help restore your body’s natural electrical energy balance.
