Benefits of Grounding Mats

Benefits of earthing mats

November 24, 2020 By Mark Hansen

I was having so much trouble falling asleep and staying asleep at night. I felt terrible during the day and was constantly exhausted. I knew that I could not continue to manage my insomnia on my own, but had no idea what to try next. It felt like I had done everything already.

Until one of my friends told me about grounding mat benefits. They said their immune system improved, among other things. I was curious, but still cautious. Could something really exist that could help me sleep better and have more energy?

Safe, high-quality and effective options.

In this article, I want to talk to you about how my grounding mat improved my sleep–and everything else it helped me with. Be sure to keep reading if you want to learn more about how earthing mats can improve your health too.

What are the Claimed Benefits of Grounding Mats?

There are many claimed benefits of earthing and grounding. The charge supposedly triggers an immune response within your body. This may increase your immune system over time- the more you ground, the better. There are some more health benefits you might experience.

Another popular one is to reduce inflammation in your body. When the free radicals leave you, your body gains an antioxidant effect. This lowers your body’s inflammatory response, which can improve a lot of other areas of your health.

For instance, inflammation is responsible for heart disease, obesity, and may even be linked to cancer. There are many reasons why you want to lower your inflammation levels.

When it comes to earth, I have experienced less sleep pain and waking up feeling more rested. Getting better sleep has been improving my health throughout the body, so I can not wait to see the benefits of using my mat long term.

Finally, some other health benefits include better quality of sleep, improved blood flow, and better blood viscosity. There are more ways to ground than just using a mat. These are other methods that work:

Make a Connection with the Earth

Another way that you can ground naturally, would be to walk barefoot on the earth. This is an easy way to connect with the earth s energy, especially if you are currently unsure about using an earthing mat.

All you need to do is wander outside and make direct contact with the earth daily for 30 minutes. This can be hard (or impossible) to do in the winter, which is why people have earthing products to use at home.

Getting outdoors can help restore your body’s natural negative charge- which impacts a lot of your health. This is because the human body is made from a bunch of complicated, connected electrical systems.

Plus, getting outside more has been shown to have its own positive aspects, outside of grounding.

How can I Ground More Often?

Fitting in time on an earthing mat is easy. All you need to do is plug it in at work under your desk. Or, you can even sleep on it at night- whatever you are comfortable with. Some of us enjoy using sheets instead of comfort.

When it comes to making contact with the earth more, just go walking barefoot. It might sound silly to you, but going into your backyard without your shoes on can be relaxing. You will want to pay more attention to where you step, however.

Some of you might live in the city and not have the opportunity to go barefoot as often. In those cases, I do recommend that you try a mat. Electrons might be causing your body issues, especially if you have not made contact with the earth in several years.

What Does the Research Say?

The research behind grounding or earthing is looking good at the moment but still needs more studies to be conclusive. The research is lacking or conducted by groups that are linked to grounding, earthing products. While this does not disprove what they have found, it does make me want to see more information from other researchers to come out.

Recent studies have explored the connection between grounding and inflammation, chronic pain management, and improved moods. Their results were promising.

So overall, the research seems to point to us needing to be connected to the earth for our health. If you want to start earthing, just go be barefoot outside for a little while. I know that it makes me feel refreshed whenever I do it.

Does it Make You Sleep Better Than Before?

Yes, I have been experiencing improved sleep since I started using a grounding mat. When I am grounded, I also feel less stressed and better overall. My blood pressure is even starting to adjust at this point.

Grounding has been shown to help with all parts of sleeping. You will not feel as tired when you first wake up, you do not feel aches, have higher energy during the day and have lower cortisol levels.

As an insomniac, I can say that grounding has helped me immensely. I do both forms of it- walking in my bare feet and using an earthing mat. The extra exercise also adds to my ability to sleep.

I think getting grounded would work for many people. The positive effects are likely there, although you have to ground over a long time to experience them.

How Does Earthing Affect the Body’s Ability to Heal?

Earthing can positively boost your body’s natural healing abilities. When your immune system is active, your heating systems are also active.

The supposed science behind it is that the new free electrons that make their way into your body improve your system responses. From there, your body can better heal inflammation or another injury. Many people report that grounding helps with muscle soreness as well.

When it comes down to it, you will always want to follow professional medical advice over grounding. Earthing should be seen as a way to receive supplemental benefits at home when it comes to your health.

Overall, getting grounded takes very little time out of your day. If you want to try it and see if it can work for you- go for it. There are many more positive effects than negative ones.

Does Grounding Reduce Inflammation?

Yes, it may. Inflammation has been shown to put a lot of stress on the human body- meaning it is important to handle it whenever you can.

Earthing might reduce inflammation due to its ability to circulate electrons and cause biochemical reactions in the body. It may even speed up the recovery of an injury and lower the pain you feel.

These topics are still being studied. When it comes down to using earthing as a supplemental healing measure on top of talking to your doctor and following their advice- it should work out great.

As for earthing, grounding might or might not be able to assist in chronic diseases. If you do suffer from one, do not rely on this method alone.

Are There People Who Sleep Grounded and Don’t Feel Anything, or for Whom Grounding Doesn’t Work?

In most cases, people are going to benefit from balancing out their electrons with the earthing process. However, everyone may experience the effects differently.

Everyone’s’ bodies are completely different from each other. This means that sometimes the impact of grounding can come right away. Some people might be lucky enough to receive instant sleep improvements and lowered levels of pain. Not everyone is like that, in fact, very few people are.

Most of us will need to experience grounding overtime to get the results we want. The more you practice earthing, the better they will be. I recommend that you try to go outside barefoot everyday or make contact with your earthing products when you can not.

In short, it is hard to tell how earthing will affect you- at least until you try it out for a long time. There are not enough studies done on the ways that different people react to the earthing process.

In general, it seems to take most of us at least four straight weeks of grounding to experience increased energy and lowered chronic pain. If you can do it even longer and make it a part of your daily routine- even better results may come your way.

If you feel that grounding is not working for you, you may just not have been doing it long enough. Some studies mention seeing the most results when we ground every day for at least 20 minutes. It is important that you have consistent contact with your grounding product during that time for the best outcome.

If you are struggling with a chronic disease, you do not want to be relying solely on earth products. Be sure to talk with a professional about what is best for you.

Summary

There are likely many benefits to owning a grounding mat. You may easily lower your stress at home with one- or gain more health improvements than just that.

More research needs to be conducted, but overall, what is out there seems to be pointing in the right direction. If your body is experiencing oxidative stress or other issues, spending more time connected with the earth might help you.

Overall, rights reserved earth products work just as well as walking around without shoes. If you want a health boost, you could use the grounding method that sounds the best to you.
